Sitting Ducks
The
AIM team and staff stay awesomely busy weeks at a time by project
leading and facilitating groups coming to serve down to Haiti.  Each
week is such a sprint with the volunteer teams that we have to remember
that our race is really a marathon.  So, we have organized breaks to
project lead one week off site in a community, and then serve on a
specific ministry team back at our base house the next.  After working
with a stellar team of 9 individuals last week I was ready to recoup at
home with some R & R.  It has been awesome to say the least, and
I couldn’t pick a better picture to depict the way I RELAX than the one below.  I love having a Coca-Cola Classic and we have some in stock here.
I also chose this picture because my brother Jon had it framed on his
wall in his room growing up and I always loved it.  Soooo chill.  The picture is very
reminiscent for me and strangely appropriate too, because where we relax here is
not all that calming or fancy.  Do you see the bullet holes next to the ducks
head???  Yeah, he doesn’t care… either because he doesn’t want to or
because he’s aloofly ignorant.  That’s totally me!!!! Hahah…
heheheheheheheh (Peter Griffin laugh).

But, directly next to our house is an empty swimming pool where rain
water has been steadily rising over the past few weeks.  Normally, a
pool would be awesome, but not when it turns into standing, moldy,
green, nasty water where mosquitoes who carry dengue fever and malaria
breed. Not cool.  But I can dig it.
The bullet holes might as well be mosquito bombs or torpedoes for me to dodge.

Anyways, what we do here becomes a healthy balance of rotating roles
and responsibilities, and incorporating small Sabbaths or periods of
rest.  So, in our rotations, the ministry teams include: Vehicle
Maintenance team, Supply/Food team, Community Development team,
Discipleship team, Project Leadership team, Intercession team, Set-up
team, Donor Relations/Media team, and House Maintenance team.  I’ve
been paired with a brother here to work on the Discipleship team which
partners with a tight group of and Haitian translators.  The work
simply entails meeting with local pastors and walking through a “model”
of discipleship in the books of 1 John, 2 & 1 Peter, and James.
Again, the point is to equip, empower, and disciple them to do the same
with their church and their leaders.

Here’s a pic of “my boys” that work with our ministry and handle our
translating.   They’re awesome.  They mix really well with the staff and teams, and furthermore, they have blessed me personally with intimate community and true brotherhood.  The guys pictured here really love the Lord and don’t just merely translate the gospel.  They are our ministry partners and most of them were already serving the Lord in a similar capacity before AIM came down here after the earthquake.  It’s been a pleasure to get to know them and hear their testimonies about Christ and the way He carried them through the recent tragedy that struck their homes, family members, and country.
